Michael Jacobs is a consultant and Visiting Senior Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics. From 2007 to May 2010 he was a Special Adviser to UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, with responsibility for energy, climate change and the environment. He was formerly (2004-07) a member of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Treasury. An environmental economist, he was previously a local economic development and environmental consultant, a research fellow at the Centre for the Study of Environmental Change at Lancaster University and the London School of Economics, and General Secretary of the think tank the Fabian Society. He is the author of a number of books, reports and academic papers on environmental and wider public policy.
