| Goal | Reduce vertical HIV/AIDS transmission levels to those seen in the developed world.
| | Approach | Introduce and deliver a new standard of care in the developing world through:
- The provision of HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy) to HIV-infected mothers, as per the WHO standard or better (i.e. HAART for all HIV+ pregnant women), shifting standard treatment away from Nevirapine only.
- Proactively identifying and testing all pregnant women and aggressively following-up any HIV+ women and offspring for 18 months.
- Providing compelling evidence to encourage national scale-up
Strategically linking PMTCT programs to existing mother-child services.
