GoalReach over 1 billion people with basic micronutrients to avert 55,000 child deaths and 3,500 maternal deaths within five years.
ApproachTarget most vulnerable populations in a manner that requires no beneficiary behaviour change. Integrate private sector commitment and implementation with public sector mandates and oversight to bring high quality fortified products to the market. Increase availability and affordability of staple foods fortified with vitamin A, zinc, iron and folic acid. Create an enabling environment to increase awareness around the benefits of fortification on child development, and to raise the value placed on nutrition on the international and national agendas.
InvestmentWhile CIFF’s current contracted commitment is $4.3 million over the first year of the programme, this commitment is part of a funding framework which will total $50 million over the five years of the programme.
Scope1.1 billion people across 22 countries with the highest numbers of child deaths and greatest magnitude of morbidity related to micronutrient deficiency.
