Sanitation & Hygiene

We are deeply concerned by the overwhelming danger posed to children by water-borne disease. The greatest water-related risk to children globally is diarrhoea, with the vast majority of deaths occurring in children under five years of age. While access to water is critical, improvements to sanitation and hygiene can have even greater effect in mitigating this deadly risk.

In this portfolio CIFF focuses on:

  • Reducing child death and suffering from diarrheal disease;
  • Scaling up effective sanitation and hygiene interventions and;
  • Promoting policy change with particular benefit to children under five.

CIFF has recently started funding this portfolio area and expect to have a number of programmes in progress for this portfolio area.
